WGBH LearningTour to Germany

Germany's Music Capitals: Dresden, Leipzig, and Berlin
with Brian McCreath
Sept. 1–11, 2008

This trip is over. See upcoming WGBH LearningTours.

Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Liszt, and Wagner are only a few of the great composers who flourished in east Germany in the 18th and 19th centuries. Join Classical Weekend host Brian McCreath on a musical journey through Germany's music capitals Berlin, Dresden, and Leipzig, Sept. 1–11, 2008.

We will attend concerts by some of the world's greatest orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic under Simon Rattle and the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig; hear a choral concert in Bach's home church, the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, and a private concert in Mendelssohn's home; and see a performance of Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier at the beautiful Semper Oper in Dresden.

Along the way we'll explore the worlds of Martin Luther and the Reformation, Goethe and Romanticism, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. A tasting of fine Saxon wines, a cruise along the Elbe, deluxe accommodations, fine dining, and more await us in these lovely cities.
